Send the messy version. A few sentences about your tools, your team, and what keeps slipping through the cracks is plenty. I'll look at it as a software person, not a vendor trying to move you into something new.

- 4.A day or two later I send you a short plan with a flat price. Or I tell you there's nothing to do yet.
